SSH Telnet
Learn more about the Telnet protocol and its use.
SSH, or Secure Shell, is a network protocol employed to connect to a server and carry out different tasks via a command line. The protocol is popular with many knowledgeable users, due to the fact that the information transmitted over it is encrypted, so it can't be intercepted on the way by a third party. SSH access may be used for a lot of things with regards to the type of hosting account. With a shared hosting account, in particular, SSH is among the ways to import/export a database or to upload a file if the web server allows for it. If you have a virtual or a dedicated server, SSH can be used for pretty much anything - you could install software or restart specific services like the web server or the database server which run on the machine. SSH is employed largely with UNIX-like Operating Systems, but there are clients which allow you to use the protocol if your computer is using a different OS too. The connection is created on TCP port 22 by default and the remote server always listens for incoming connections on that port even though many service providers change it for security reasons.

SSH Telnet in Shared Hosting
SSH access is featured with all
Linux shared hosting we provide. With some of them, it's featured as standard, while with others it's an optional upgrade you can add with a couple of clicks from your website hosting CP. You can obtain SSH access from the section related to it where you shall also find the info that you need to connect - the host, the port number and the username. You can select the password which you will use and, if needed, you will be able to change it with several mouse clicks from the same spot. All commands which can be used with our shared plans are listed inside a help article along with relevant examples. If the SSH access feature is enabled for your account, you will also be able to upload files through your favorite FTP client via an SFTP connection.

SSH Telnet in Semi-dedicated Servers
SSH access is included by default with some of our
semi-dedicated server solutions, while with others you will be able to add it via the hosting CP if necessary - even only for the current month. In any case, you'll be able to activate and de-activate the function with a single click via the SSH section of the Control Panel. In the same place, you'll discover the server name, the port number and the username required to connect to our platform. You shall also find a box in which you can easily enter the password that you'd like to use, since it doesn't have to be the same as the one you use to log into the CP. For better security, you could also change it as much as you require. The full list of the commands which can be executed within a semi-dedicated account is available in our Knowledge Base, alongside the syntax and several instances. An extra feature after SSH access is enabled will be the ability to connect to your hosting space via SFTP using any FTP client that supports this sort of connections.

SSH Telnet in VPS Servers
You shall be able to use SSH to control your content no matter which
VPS plans you choose when you sign up, since all our packages include this function by default. You will not have to add or allow anything by hand - the instant your web server is ready and you get the Welcome e-mail with the login information, you'll be able to connect and begin working on your sites or any software that you would like to install and run on the web server. You will have root-level access to the VPS and due to the fact that the account will be separated from all the other accounts inside the physical hosting server, you'll be able to do anything you need with no restrictions. You can install any application you need and that shall run on a Linux-based hosting server, restart any software server (web, database, game, media, etc.) and handle your files and databases fast and easy.
